We have had another wonderful time this week in B2. We really enjoyed the sense of community – whanaungatanga – that we felt when the whole school joined the bike track as one big team all belonging together.
On Wednesday lunchtime we had the best time squirting Kevin and some other teachers in our team with as much water as we could. It was such good fun. Some of us just used water bottles and these were just as effective!
Maths – for our maths work next week we will be continuing to look at number knowledge and formation, we often use whiteboards and play dough for this. 2D shape work will play a large part in our maths during the following weeks too and some statistical information charts, particularly looking at the colour of our eyes. We will learn how to collect and interpret data.
Reading – We will keep up to date with all our reading activities and bringing our reading books home every night. We are getting really clever at using our noticing skills more and more when we learn new words.
Writing - This week’s activities will include writing about our classroom and the things in it. We are looking at the final two short vowels – o,u. Try and ask the children to show you the vowels using their five fingers on one hand.
Inquiry - Our writing and inquiry continues to be about ourselves and our community. We will look at the things in the classroom and school around us that we know and are familiar to us. The term ‘community’ is being used a lot by the children now and we like to think of B2 as being our school family/whanau.
Te Reo Maori - All the children are able to greet each other in Maori now during the roll and can introduce themselves simply.
"Ate Marie Ms Fletcher. Ko Liam ahau."
Ask your child to share this with you.
School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.
Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We have been looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom. Ask your child if they can tell you about them.
Home books this week contain reading words at the level of which your child is reading. Just have a little look at these with your child and see if they can find them in their reading books. Next term I will be incorporating some spelling words into your home books if you wish to look at or learn these with your child.
Swimming togs – for Tuesday, Wednesday (optional lunchtime waterslide/pool) and Thursday please.
Passion Friday - begins this week on Friday 10th March. It is lovely to see many members of B2 have signed up for various opportunities. We will be running focus groups in the classroom for those who are not attending any of these activities.
Gala - and last but not least we do have the gala on Saturday! We have to clear our classroom on Friday as it is being used during the gala. Please come along and support our school and have a lot of fun doing so.
Many thanks for your continued support
