Weekly Update

I am really looking forward to everyone coming in and celebrating their child’s work on the afternoon/evening of Wednesday 24th May. It will be lovely for each child to show you all their achievements over the past few months.

Maths – our maths strand subject for the next few weeks is ‘weight’. We have a ‘weight’ table in the classroom and the children are encouraged to compare the weights of varying objects. We also continue with counting on and number recognition in our groups.
Reading –As well as our reading groups I always try to read a couple of stories a day where possible to the whole class. It is a great time to encourage a love of books and listening skills. It’s also a good time to ask questions and see just how much each child has understood about the story. If we had the time, I would read a lot more books to the children as it is one of my favourite things to do!

Word work – We will be looking at the ‘ou’ and ‘bl’ sounds this week. For example, mouse and blue.

Inquiry – As an ongoing part of our inquiry this week we will be looking at chemical reactions. The lava lamps we made were fantastic – you can have a look when you pop in on Wednesday. This week we will be looking at vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

Writing -  We continue with our writing for stamina this week. We are increasing our independence and are able to write an increasing amount without too much assistance. We focus on our punctuation and finger spaces. Well done, B2!

Te Reo Maori – This week B2 will join B1 for our Maori. Mrs Rhodes will have a myth for us to learn about.

School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.

Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.

Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. There will be some new spellings in your home books this week.

Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.

Library day is Tuesday

Sharing news is on Monday and Friday

Many thanks for your continued support.
