The learning celebrations were a great success! Thank you all for coming. It was lovely for each and every child to be able to show you all their achievements over the past few months. The children were so excited to share everything with their families. They were all very impressive at taking charge of the sharing and were excellent guides of their learning.
Maths – our maths strand subject for the next few weeks is ‘weight’. We will be putting three objects in their order of weight this week. The children are enjoying weighing things at the weighing table. We will be working on counting back, missing numbers and the concepts of ‘more’ or ‘less’ in our groups.
Reading –One of the skills that is important to learn when reading is that of fluent and smooth reading. We will be looking at building this up in our groups so that we sound like a flowing river and not a robot!
Word work – We will be looking at the ‘ai’ and ‘cl’ sounds this week. For example, rain and cloud.
Inquiry – Simone organised our experiment last week using vinegar and baking soda. We loved it! We had so many questions to ask and managed to find out so many new things. We are really enjoying our ‘wonderings’!
Writing - This week we will be going on the bikes again. Last week was such good fun and the children said they wanted to have another go. We will be writing about our experiences on the track – it’s always good to write about something straight after we have experienced it, keeps the ideas nice and fresh!
Te Reo Maori – This week B1 will join B2 for our Maori. We will be learning the words for different modes of transport.
School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.
Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.
Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. There will be some new spellings in your home books this week.
Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.
Library day is Tuesday
Sharing news is on Monday and Friday
Many thanks for your continued support.
