Welcome to Week 6 – we are halfway through the term can you believe it?! The chills have certainly brought their ills with them, hopefully everyone will feel better after the long weekend. We welcomed Millie to our class this week she has joined us from the USA. It’s lovely to have you with us, Millie!
Maths – our next maths strand subject for the next few weeks is ‘position’. We will be placing objects in various after listening carefully to instructions. We will continue to be working on counting back, missing numbers and the concepts of ‘more’ or ‘less’ in our groups.
Reading –One of the skills that is important to use when reading is that of saying the initial sound of a word which we find difficult to read. If this is combined with looking at the accompanying picture then there is a good chance that we can work out the unfamiliar word.
Word work – We will be looking at the ‘cr’ and ‘ck’ sounds this week. For example, crown and duck.
Inquiry – Our inquiry this week was about what happens when we heat up and then cool ingredients from the kitchen. We looked at jelly and made some to share with Mr Cronin. This week we will be looking at another aspect of changing material.
Writing - This week we will be going on the bikes again. Unfortunately, last week had to be cancelled due to the rain. We will be writing about our experiences on the track – it’s always good to write about something straight after we have experienced it, keeps the ideas nice and fresh!
Te Reo Maori – This week B2 will join B1 for Maori myths and legends. The stories that we read are amazing and we love to learn new things.
School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.
Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.
Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. There will be some new spellings in your home books this week.
Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.
Library day is Tuesday
Sharing news is on Monday and Friday
Many thanks for your continued support.
