Welcome to Week 7!
We welcome Juliana to our class this week. It’s lovely to have you with us, Juliana!
Maths – we continue to look at our geometry strand of maths which focuses on ‘position’. This week we will be making a mini book showing that we understand all the words of ‘position’ that we use. We will also continue to be working on counting back, missing numbers and the concepts of ‘more’ or ‘less’ in our groups.
Reading –We work with B1 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and use this time as a Discovery Session. During this time groups of readers are drawn out and we run a guided reading session with that group. Before reading I will point out any tricky words that may be in the text. During guided reading the children are encouraged to read the book to themselves and then conference with myself and/or the others about the story.
Word work – We will be looking at the ‘fl’ and ‘ar’ sounds this week. For example, flying and car.
Inquiry – Last week we had fun trying to layer different liquids and solids– some were more successful than others! We discovered that glitter is quite a light material as it floated on lots of different liquids. This week we will be looking the effects of yeast.
Writing - This week we will be linking our writing with what we observe from a picture. The children will be encouraged to talk about the pictures first to each other and then write down their observations.
Te Reo Maori – This week B1 will join B2 for Maori and we will be singing songs and listening to how Te Reo Maori sounds when it is spoken.
School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.
Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.
Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. Please try to remember to bring in your home books every day, thank you.
Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.
Library day is Tuesday
Sharing news is on Monday and Friday
Many thanks for your continued support.
