Weekly Update

'Together we inspire learning'

Welcome to the first week of Term 3!

I hope you all had a great break and got to spend some quality time with your lovely children.
I am really looking forward to some more fun learning new things with B2 this term.
This Wednesday we have our Year One Morning Tea (see previous post). Please bring along a soft toy to share it with.

Maths – We are going to be beginning some work on fractions and their symbols this week beginning with halves and quarters. We will also continue to work on our number work and problem solving.

Reading – Don’t worry if you haven’t managed to read much over the holidays we will catch up over the next couple of weeks. It can take a few days for your child to get used to reading again if they are a little out of practise but we work on this to help make this as small an issue as possible. Just try to remember to read at home every day.

Word work – We will be looking at the ‘pl’ and ‘ai’ sounds this week. For example, play train. We look at each sound individually and then put them together to make a new sound (digraph) or blend.

Inquiry – Our inquiry this term is looking at ‘movement’. We will be looking at personal histories, homes and journeys. We will begin this week by looking at our homes and the places we like best in our homes.

Writing -  We will be continuing to work on our independent writing this week. We are trying to incorporate more ‘wow’ words into our writing. These words help to bring our writing to life and put pictures into our minds. Writing about our own homes will encourage us to use more descriptive words. It’s always easier to write from personal experience.

Te Reo Maori – This week B2 will look at the Te Reo Maori words to do with our homes and linking with our inquiry.

School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.

Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.

Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. Please try to remember to bring in your home books every day, thank you. Next week I will be putting some more spellings into your child’s home book.

Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.

Library day is Tuesday

Sharing news is on Monday and Friday

Many thanks for your continued support.
