Weekly Update

'Together we inspire learning'

Week Six
It was lovely to see so many children take part in the Fun Run last week. My favourite part is seeing all the smiling faces as they cross the finish line. Well done, everyone!

Don’t forget to have a look around the Plaza for Bobby and Barny Bear. Here he is at the cinema!

Maths – This will be our last week of looking at fractions for a while. We are so quick at learning new mathematical ideas.
There will also be plenty of number work while doing our daily calendar maths.

Reading – We always have a weekly poem and big book which we share as a whole class. This helps us to work on reading strategies together as well as enjoying a book together. Don't forget to look out for my tips to successful reading at home in the School Newsletter.

Word work – We will be looking at the ‘bl’ and ‘ea’ sounds this week.
For example; blue beads

Inquiry – Have you managed to see Barny Bear anywhere in Whangaparaoa yet? He is enjoying his trips around to different people’s houses. B2 are looking after him so well. Don’t worry if he hasn’t been to your house yet, he will soon! We had a great time doing our bear hunt around the school using maps.

Writing -  It is really important that we continue to remember to use finger spaces when writing. It makes it easier to read. Sometimes we use a lolly stick to put between the words when we are writing instead of our fingers.

Te Reo Maori – We are linking all our Maori lessons with our inquiry learning. We will be learning the Maori words for places that we see daily around our community.

School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.

Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.

Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. Please try to remember to bring in your home books every day, thank you.

Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.

Library day is Tuesday

Sharing news is on Monday and Friday

Many thanks for your continued support.
