Weekly Update

'Together we inspire learning'

Week Seven

It is that time in the term where we all become a little tired but it is good to know that B2 are still enthusiastic to learn and enjoy finding out new things.
We have been looking at being kind to each other over the past few weeks and how kindness makes us feel inside. It’s a great feeling when you know someone cares about you.

Maths – We will be looking at lines of symmetry this week. This is always good fun and demands great noticing and observational skills.
There will also be plenty of number work while doing our daily calendar maths.

Reading – If your child has recently moved onto a different colour band they will be bringing home the words that they need to learn for that level this week. There are usually three levels within a colour band so if your child has moved up a level and does not have a new list of words it will be because they are still on the same colour band. B2 – your reading is awesome!

Word work – this week we will be reviewing and revising some of the digraphs we have looked at already this term. It is important that we do this every so often as we need to consolidate our learning.

Inquiry – Barny is still enjoying himself as he visits everyone’s home. Thank you for taking so much care of him B2. Our book “The Journey of Barny Bear” is building up wonderfully and we all love reading it together. This week we will be wondering about where Barny might like to go on his holidays in the Summer. Last week we wrote some letters to the Whangaparaoa Library to see if they would let B1 and B2 bring our lovely bears on a visit. Thank you very much to Hector’s Mummy for helping us out with this. We’ll let you know when we have a confirmed date J

Writing -  Some of us are learning to edit our work by underlining the words we are unsure of. This is a really useful skill and leads to the use of dictionaries. Looking back over the year it is amazing to see how all the children have progressed as writers. They are becoming very independent authors now. You knock my socks off, B2!

Te Reo Maori – We are linking all our Maori lessons with our inquiry learning. This week we will be learning the Maori words that describe a place we might go to on a holiday.

School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.

Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.

Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. Please try to remember to bring in your home books every day, thank you.

Remember in Term 2 and 3 we do not need to wear hats outside.

Library day is Tuesday

Sharing news is on Monday and Friday

Many thanks for your continued support.

Libby, Simone and the children of B2
