This term we need to remember a hat to protect ourselves at playtimes. If we don’t have a hat we have to stay in the shade.

Maths – We will be doing lots of practical maths over the next few weeks which means lots of fun and learning. We will be looking at patterns, shapes and area measurement.
There will also be plenty of number work while doing our daily calendar maths.

Reading – Remember that just ten minutes a day can really help with our reading. We do so much group and whole class reading at school but it is a great opportunity for students to get some individual attention at home.

Word work – We will be looking at the blend sound made by ‘tr’. For example, a train.

Inquiry – Our trip to the zoo will be the main focus of our inquiry this week. We will be looking at New Zealand’s native animals and how we can help them grow and keep safe in our environment.

Writing -  Moving on from our full stop and capital letter focus we will now be incorporating wow words into our writing. Some children will also be looking at different ways to start a sentence. This all helps to make our writing more interesting

Te Reo Maori – We will be learning how to say some animal names in Maori after our visit to the zoo.

School Values – ORCA – The symbol of the orca is very important to Whangaparaoa School and is carried with us everywhere, every day on our uniform.

Each letter of the ORCA stands for a different value:
O – Ownership
R – Respect
C – Collaborate
A – Achieve
We continue looking at these values and how we can take them on board in our classroom.

Home books – Please continue to read and learn your spellings at home. Please try to remember to bring in your home books every day, thank you.

Library day is Tuesday

Sharing news is on Monday and Friday

Remember your hats!

Many thanks for your continued support.
